Species Symphodus cinereus

Small fish, from 8 to 15 cm. Colour varies from ash grey to beige, sometimes yellow to green. Depending on the season, shows two longitudinal dark lines, males show a black spot on the first rays of dorsal fin, when protecting the nest they are mottled. Have a black spot at the base of the caudal peduncle below the lateral line.

May be confused with other Symphodus sp. with clear hue.
