Species Palinurus elephas (Common crawfish)

It is an arthropod that can reach 30 to 50 cm. It has an elongated body and very long antennas, much longer than its body. The carapace is curved laterally and is covered with pointed tubercles. At the front, the caparace is prolonged with two triangular spines that form a couple of horns. Colour varies from red to brownish, and presents lighter spots of different shapes all over the body, including the antennas. Each abdominal segment has a lighter spot on either side of the axis of symmetry. Its walking feet have white lines. The fifth pair of legs is shorter than the others.

Juveniles present a yellow longitudinal line along the abdomen.

Might be confused by Palinurus mauritanicus, but these do not have a white line on the walking legs.
